So you’ve made the plans and you’re finally making your dream come true and moving to a new country. First we’d like to congratulate you. It’s a big step. And it’s going to take a lot of work, but with enough organizing and decluttering, you’ll make it. Don’t worry. We have your back.

Step One: Get Rid Of Stuff

Step two: Get rid of even more stuff. When it comes to moving across the country, especially if you have to cross an ocean, minimalism is the key to success. If you don’t just absolutely have to have it, get rid of it. Trust me. You’re not going to need 11 of the same Taylor Swift CD’s in your new home. Toss those other nine into a donate stack or throw a moving sale! Just remember that if you can’t sell it, don’t pack it up, DONATE IT!!

Wrap, Wrap and Box It all Up

Yep. When it comes to moving across the country, think of the trip itself and how far your stuff is going to have to travel. When it comes to your stuff, you want to make sure it makes it safely and that nothing gets damaged or broken. We recommend getting moving insurance that covers broken items as well as wrapping and boxing your things carefully. You can even wrap some things in blankets in the boxes as an extra layer of protection.

Label Everything!

When you get to your new home, you want it to be easy to find everything that you need. The good news is that it can be! It’s all about labeling. When you go to label a box, don’t just label it on the top, but also on all sides. By labeling a box this way, if it’s stacked a certain way, you can still tell what’s in the box. Genius, right? We think so.

As your moving day approaches, it’s easy to lose your head a little when you think of everything you have to do before the big day arrives. Thankfully for you though, you’ve got this list and friends and family to help! Have a great move!
