There are a ton of questions you need to be asking your potential roommate candidates.
To help you on your search and narrow down the list of possible people that’ll help load the fridge and split the bills, we’ve put together a list of all of the important questions you will want to ask before moving day.
What is a Normal Day Like for You?
What does a normal day look like for your potential roomie? This is a good question because it will give you the opportunity to discover what a day is going to look like between the two of you in the coming months.
How Do You Feel About Pets?
This question is SO important and for a lot of different reasons. Is your potential new roommate allergic to pets? Does the place where you’re going to be staying allow pets? Make sure if you do bring an animal into your new space that everyone is well aware of who is in charge of cleaning up after it and feedings.
Do You Consider Yourself Neat or Messy?
This question can be a lot of fun to ask and answer! Is your potential new roommate a clean freak? Total slob? It’s best to find out what type of conditions they’re used to living in and go from there. It’s also a good idea to create a good cleaning list and divide it up BEFORE moving day.
What is Your Relationship with your Parents?
Might not seem like an important question, but trust me. It is. You will want to know what to expect when it comes to drop in visits, phone calls, and things. Don’t worry, because even if it seems kind of off-topic, it isn’t.
How Often Do You Go Out?
This is an important question because when we look at it carefully, we realize there are actually two meanings. Do you see the other one? “How Often Will You be Home?”
This includes weekends, too. So be certain to communicate and maybe find out if you run in the same social circles.
Do You Cook and Do You Enjoy It?
This question, depending on whether or not you’re food savvy, can make or break the potential roommate situation. On the other hand, if one of you loves cooking and the other hates it, this could end up being the best thing since doughnuts.
What are Your Deal Breakers?
This could very well be one of the most important questions when it comes to evaluating a roommate. It’s important to answer this question yourself and also BE HONEST.
Yes, there are so many more questions you can ask a potential roommate. But we thought we’d help to get you started on the road to finding the perfect roommate. Cheers!
